How to Feng Shui your Bedroom – 5 Basic Feng Shui Bedroom Tips

When someone starts to feng shui their home, there are some areas that you might need help in figuring out where to start. The process that I underwent to feng shui my home would have been a lost cause had I not had some wonderful assistance. But my favorite room to feng shui was my bedroom. My bedroom is a comfortable place that I love. I love my bed and the way it looks in my room and I truly love the peace I get when I go into my room to sleep. There are some feng shui bedroom tips that I will share with you so that you can speed along the process of calming your life. There are five main feng shui bedroom tips that I feel to be very important. One that is important is lighting. The lighting that is present in your bedroom is really important with feng shui. If you have really bright lights or hideous light fixtures, that can kill your feng shui efforts. Different levels of lighting are one of the feng shui bedroom tips that I feel is very important. To be able to dim your lights helps to create a warm atmosphere that brings a calming effect and will make your room seem very inviting.

Something else I would like to point out in my feng shui bedroom tips is that you should do away with big things like workout equipment, televisions and even computers. These are things that are big, bulky and don’t signal peace. By having these in your bedroom you are chasing away the ability to have a feng shui bedroom. It might be hard to do but trust me, this is a part of the feng shui bedroom tips that will bring about surprising results. You might be thinking that you fall asleep watching television and so it has to stay. But by falling asleep with a television, you are nodding off with those last images on your brain. You won’t be able to let your body rest in the way that it needs to if you do that.

A part of the feng shui bedroom tips that will make a huge effect is to think about the pictures that you hang on your wall. When you pick out something to hang on your bedroom wall, it should be something that you hope to do one day or of something really great that you already did. If there was a special trip that you went on that you never want to forget, pictures of that would be good to hang. Keep in mind that you should never hang pictures that make you sad. Remember as one of my feng shui bedroom tips, feng shui is to help create a happy and positive atmosphere. Do what you need to so that negative feelings won’t be in your space.

Bed placement is something that you might not think about as one of the feng shui bedroom tips but it’s something that you should think about. If you just toss your bed anywhere in your room, odds are that it’s not going to flow well. Placing your bed so that one side is up against a wall is not good with feng shui. You want to be able to easily access both sides of your bed. That is part of being able to feng shui your bedroom.

The last tip that I want to give you with my feng shui bedroom tips is to shut up all your doors before climbing into bed. If you leave the doors open you are allowing your positive energy to have too much room. Leaving the doors closed will keep all of your positive energy near you as you sleep at night.

The ‘normal’ Kid Raising Siblings Of Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder

As a mother of two sons, one with moderate-to-severe autism and one without, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to juggle the needs of all the members of a family when one of the members has special needs. Raising a child with autism is not an easy endeavor- getting the right services for your child, working to improve developmental skills, and dealing with the daily challenges unique to autism can be as much work (if not more!) than a full-time job. This article addresses the challenges unique to raising siblings of children with autism: children whose needs can sometimes be overshadowed by the more obvious ones of their special sibling. I am not a psychologist or a doctor- just a mom who has made a fair share of mistakes, and picked up some pointers along the way. I hope these suggestions are helpful to you and your family.

Spend one-on-one time. Spending time alone with your child is a great way to make sure he or she doesnt get lost in the shuffle of the daily grind, or ground down by all-autism, all the time. My son and I started a vegetable garden together, which provides peaceful quality time outdoors for both of us. The tasty tomatoes, peppers, and carrots are a nice bonus too! We also bake together, once in a while, just the two of us, and he is my official grocery shopping helper. Little activities like that can add up to quite a bit of time during the week, and a stronger relationship.

Teach your child about autism. Depending on the age of the child, there are a variety of media resources to help children understand autism, including books and movies. Teach your child the word, and what it means for his or her sibling. For example, I began very simply with my youngest son when he was 3 years old, and told him that his brother had autism, and had a hard time using his words. As hes grown older, Ive explained more, about impulse control, meltdowns, and food aversions – in kid-speak, of course! This way, these are just simply facts that he has in his mental file about his brother, alongside such useful information as has brown hair and loves trucks.

Acknowledge his/her feelings. Some days you probably hate autism too, and get really frustrated by your childs behavior. Maybe you were embarrassed by the meltdown in the grocery store too. You grieve for the child you might have had. Your child may grieve for the brother or sister he/she might have had too. Acknowledge these feelings, without dwelling on them. Make it safe for your child to express his/her feelings without repercussions. Burying feelings isnt healthy for anyone, including children, and in this case, it may lead towards resentment and guilt towards his or her sibling.

Make sure your rules are fair. In my house, the rule is that everyone does what he or she can do. Autism is not allowed to be an excuse. Even though my eight year old son has moderate-to-severe autism, there are still several chores he can do, with supervision and assistance. It is good for your child with autism to learn responsibility and self-help skills. It is also good for demonstrating inclusion principles right in your own home. If your child without autism has chores, and the child with autism has no chores, resentment may also build, and that is something that should be avoided wherever possible.

Dont forget the positive praise. Praise your children. Frequently. If it doesnt come easily, try using statements like I like how you, or It makes me so happy when you. Children need to hear more praise than criticism in order to develop a positive self-image. Cultivate the habit.

Have reasonable expectations. No child is going to behave perfectly. Just because your child doesnt have autism, doesnt mean he or she is going to be an angel. My husband and I have made that mistake, and were grateful when another mom pointed it out (discreetly) to us. Kids are going to be kids. Making mistakes, misbehaving, and testing boundaries are all part of the learning process. Are you perfect? I know Im not, and I dont expect either one of my kids to be either.

Dont let autism rule your familys life. A diagnosis of autism can often mean lots of therapies and treatments and appointments with specialists. My son receives speech therapy and occupational therapy twice a week after school (on alternating days), for an hour each session. Parents who are following ABA protocols can spend even more time! Its time consuming but necessary. However, I refuse to schedule any therapies on Friday or over the weekend. Thats our family time. I also arrange to have my younger son participate in an after school program he really enjoys, so that he doesnt have to sit in a clinic for an hour waiting for his brother. That way, therapy is accomplished, and no one (with the possible exception of me) is bored in a waiting room.

Keep your marriage strong. One of the first things I read about when I was researching my newly-diagnosed little boys disorder was the shockingly high divorce rates among parents of special needs children. My husband and I agreed that we liked being married to each other, and wanted to keep it that way. Some of the strategies weve pursued in keeping our marriage strong is keeping a date night, at least twice a month. If you dont have reliable respite care (parents or friends, for example), contact your local social services agency. Many social services agencies maintain resource lists for consumers, including lists of agencies which provide respite care. Your marriage is worth the effort and the expense! Other valuable insights I have gained through this journey is the importance of being patient and gentle with one another, and taking care of one another. You are partners on this parenting journey together, and the easiest, most loving way to complete the journey is by staying happily married. Both kids need that from you.

Keep your stress level as low as you can. Its not as impossible as it sounds! I understand exactly how difficult that can be. Raising children is a juggling act; raising a family with autistic and non-autistic children is a juggling act on a unicycle. That is why it is so crucial to find personal time to take care of yourself. I take care of my garden, meditate daily, take bubble baths with a good mystery or romance novel once or twice a week, and get on the elliptical to exercise two to three times a week (whether I want to or not). These are things which keep me sane, and refresh my spirit. My husband plays video games and has poker night with the guys. Its finding what works for you. Its not selfish to find time for yourself. Nourishing your mind, body and spirit helps you to be strong for your family.

I hope that following these suggestions will help as you raise your mixed family.

Feng Shui – The Spirit of Landforms

There are environmental factors that we need to consider when checking a property or site for Feng Shui compliance. The external landforms such as rivers, waterways, roads, lakes, hills, mountains or rises in the land does play an important role in Feng Shui. A property that is aligned with these landforms in the correct location and direction is deemed auspicious and the people living in such a property will enjoy harmony and prosperity. Likewise, a property that is misaligned in relations to these landforms is considered inauspicious and residents will suffer misfortune and bad luck.

A property is categorized under three cycles and nine periods based on Feng Shui San Yuan formula. There are the upper cycle, middle cycle and lower cycle. Each cycle governs three periods and each period last for twenty years. Therefore, a cycle will run for 60 years before the next cycle takes over.

The current period is known as Period Eight which started in Feb 2004 and will expire in Feb 2023. In this period, there are certain compass directions a property should comply with based on the Indirect/Direct Spirit Feng Shui Formula as follows:-

Indirect Spirits – Southwest, East, Southeast and North

Direct Spirits – Northeast, West, Northwest and South

The formula specifies that a property should have its front facing the Indirect Spirit and its rear facing the Direct Spirit. The Indirect Spirit is a compass direction for the location of water in the vicinity whereas the Direct Spirit is a compass direction for location of hills and mountains in the distance.

For instance, if the front of a property is facing a lake or river in the Southwest and has its rear looking towards a mountain in the Northeast, it is said to comply with the Indirect/Direct Spirit Formula. The property can tap into the auspicious energies which bring health, relationship and money luck to the residents. On the other hand, a property which faces a mountain in front with its rear end pointing towards a lake is said to violate the Indirect/Direct Spirit Formula. Residents will not enjoy good luck and tend to face obstacles and challenges in their life. For free Feng Shui tips and consultations, please visit proactive-qi.com

This is only one of the fundamental factors in Feng Shui with regards to landforms. It is a matter of Yin and Yang. Yang relates to the Indirect Spirit and Yin the Direct Spirit. Ideally, a property should face Yang and sits Yin. Yang is the side of the property where there is most noise, activity and brightness whereas Yin is the side of the property where there is peace, stillness and dimness. Likewise, Water is Yang and mountain is Yin. When water and mountain are at their correct compass directions in relations to a property based on the Indirect/Direct Spirit formula, Yin and Yang is said to be in balance.

Apart from the above formula, there are other Feng Shui formulas which relates to the interior of a property, namely Flying Stars and Eight Mansion, to name the more popular ones. These Feng Shui formulas allow residents to map out the energy distribution within a property based on the facing direction (Flying Stars) and sitting direction (Eight Mansion) respectively. It is equally important that a person’s date and time of birth be taken into consideration so that the energy of the property is correctly aligned with the resident’s energy or life force. In Chinese Astrology known as Four Pillars of Destiny, a property with good Feng Shui can help to enhance or mitigate the effects of any positive or negative luck cycles a person is going through in order to live a happy and successful life.

Top Ten Feng Shui Tips

We know that Feng Shui is one of the most popular and the most referred philosophies for living in harmony in any architectural structure. Although many people consider it to be difficult and hard to implement, it has been observed that Feng Shui is more on the basis of common sense.

The first tip is quiet simple. Keep your windows clean and tidy. Feng Shui states that windows represents opportunities. And dirty windows would obviously mean, blocking the opportunities, which we wouldn’t like to happen.

The next tip is even simpler. Search for those rooms in your home, including bath room, where the lights are broken and replace them right away. Feng Shui says its as good as lighting up the future, relationship and career. This is one of the major energy circle.

The third tip too is quite simple. Tighten up all the loose and hanging handles and knobs of doors and drawer. It often symbolizes and improves the way in which you can handle situations and circumstances.

The fourth suggestion is to keep the plants inside the home always watered and green, and not let them dry up. They represent wealth, vitality and enthusiasm, and it better be green all the time.

Fifth is to keep your toilet lids closed, this is emphasized in Feng Shui in order to protect our energy from being drained unnecessarily. Developing the habit of keeping the lid closed, according to Feng Shui, will bring in us the ability to retain the energy.

The sixth suggestion looks at Feng Shui in the Bedroom, and keeping the space under the bed clean and clutter-free. Usually people put in all unwanted stuff under the beds and often complain of lack of sleep. Feng Shui names them as evil forces which take off your sleep, thus get rid of the things under your bed and wipe the floor clean. This should get you a good night sleep.

The next tip is to keep the mirrors always clean so that we can always look at our self without any obstruction. It gives us the ability to analyze and correct our self and brings into a zone of self confidence.

The eighth tip suggests that one should have a properly marked entry way. By this one could be sure that people can easily find us, and so will the positive energies of life. This is what Feng Shui suggests.

The ninth tip is to repair all leakages at home, be it in the pipelines or in the tap. Make sure none of them are dripping. According to Feng Shui, dripping taps represents draining money, which is not a good sign. So better get it fixed before you lose your money big time.

The number ten tip is to make sure that no windows or doors are directly across from each other. This results into good and bad energy flowing in the home, and we don’t want any of them to enter the home. The bad energy is said to cause death and pain in the home.

Apply these and bring peace to your home and its dwellers.
