Classroom Decorating Ideas – 5 Tips For Budget-savvy Schools

Just when you think you understand how your child’s school operates within its district’s budget, power changes hands, funds are found and then re-designated, and new expenses appear. Keeping up with the financial flow can feel like a full-time job (dedicated PTA members, we salute you). Most schools experience the same strain we do when it comes to balancing the books between educational spending, the wear-and-tear on campus facilities, and a dwindling supply of, well, supplies.

Kids might be blissfully unaware of fiscal situations, but their need for colorful, interactive environments never changes. Making sure your kids spend most of their early learning days in an intellectually balanced setting can cement creative learning abilities that lead to invaluable skills in the future. As the school year continues and the budget dwindles, the nuances of a good education truly become a community-wide responsibility. Parents, teachers, and student supporters can help by supplying bright ideas to help local schools produce aesthetic, engaging classrooms for less. Here are five ideas to inspire your own:

1. At the beginning of each semester, teachers could hold classroom decorating parties and allow parents to bring items from home that are appropriate to use as classroom dcor. For example, one parent could supply a thick beanbag to create a cozy reading nook, while another could contribute a seldom-used lamp.

2. Never underestimate the power of an inanimate classroom mascot. Suggest that your child’s teacher ask the class to bring one or two decorative items from home that can be easily applied to the wall. Once the pile of materials is big enough, he or she can use the items to design a mural-sized dragon, horse, or other animal the class votes to create. Older children can help with the application process and may want to dream up their own whimsical creature.

3. Students can collect art supplies during a weekly nature walk in order to create curriculum-inspired decorations for multiple holidays throughout the year. If the class is studying the Pilgrims, they could create a harvest table set with the natural materials the original Pilgrims would’ve had access to. Besides, who doesn’t need to know how to make a stick fork and leaf placemats?

4. A decoration-trading program between classrooms for similar age groups can save the school money by eliminating the need to buy multiple kits. If the decoration requires constant updating, each participating teacher could start the accompanying lesson earlier or later so the decorations spend less time in storage.

5. If they must spend money, push the powers-that-be to purchase classroom decorations that are sturdy and can be easily repurposed. Paint and construction paper cutouts only last so long and require constant upkeep, which is something stretched schools simply don’t have.

One of the many benefits of multifunctional decorations is the potential for reinvigorating spaces over and over again. A renewable environment can do wonders for kids and teachers, and your child’s school administrators would probably support free feng shui if it enhances the students’ day-to-day experiences.

Using The Law Of Attraction To Attract Your Right Partner-part Two

Hopefully you read Part One so that you understand the power of the law of attraction. This Law attracts people to us like a magnet, based on what we think and feel. Most of our thinking is done unconsciously which explains why you might be attracting the wrong person each time.

If you are attracting the same kind of person that you don’t want, you are likely focusing your thoughts and energy on what you don’t want, rather than on what you do want. Much of this is done unconsciously. You don’t even know it’s happening. If you repeatedly attract the wrong person that is your clue that you need to change your thoughts.

Ready to start attracting the person of your dreams? Here are the basic steps:

Have A Written Goal

” Set the goal or intention. Write it down.

” Write down the characteristics of your ideal partner (Age, education, economic level, height, hobbies, everything you want).

” Read your list every day. Your mind must have repetition in order to change the neural connections.

” Believe you can have it and that you deserve it.

Visualize Yourself With Your New Partner

” Your mind thinks in pictures so make a mental movie.

” Be sure to put yourself in the movie.

” Think of what it feels like to be with your partner.

” See yourself holding hands, cuddling, making love, doing things that you enjoy.

” Do your visualization every morning and evening when your mind is most receptive.

Create A Vision Board

” Find photo images of happy couples that seem to have the kind of relationship you want.

” Include photos of the house you want to live in and doing things you want to do together.

” Place your vision board where you can see it every day.

” You can spice it up even more by using Feng Shui on your vision board. Put your photos in your relationship corner, which is the upper right corner of your board.

Create Powerful Affirmations

” Make sure your affirmations are positive.

” State your affirmations in the present tense.

” Repeat your affirmations several times a day, especially in the morning and evening

” Repeat your affirmations when you catch yourself thinking negatively about your relationship situation.

Ignite Your Passion

” It is your feelings that attract things to you faster.

” Feel it as you say your affirmations & do your visualization.

” How does it feel to be with your partner?

BE The Right Partner

” What specific qualities do you want your new partner to see in you? Make a list.

” What do you need to change about yourself to prepare for your new partner?

” What can you do to love yourself more?

” What can you do to love your partner more?

” Practice being the kind of person you want to become.

Take Action

” What are your passions? Start doing things now that you are passionate about

” Where can you meet people who share your passions?

” Keep a gratitude journal. You get more of the things in which you are grateful.

” Be grateful for all of the relationships you have right now.

” Put yourself in places where you can meet new people.

” Expect that you will meet the right person. Erase all doubts.

An important part of this process is you believing that you deserve the kind of person you want to attract. Some people have issues with self-worth. Maintaining a deeply held belief that you don’t deserve a certain type of person will prevent you from attracting it regardless of how great you look, or any other physical attribute you might have.

The next time you’re looking to attract your right and perfect partner, take a look inside your mind. You’ll find just what you’re looking for.

Aim High!

Diet Menus And Plans – Revisiting The Automatic Diet

There is no danger in reading about diets. But please, do not undertake any diet without discussing its pros and cons with a qualified health care professional. You can really harm yourself if you don’t take proper precautions. And don’t expect to lose pound after pound quickly and effortlessly. Keeping these precautions in mind you are now ready to consider the Automatic Diet.

The Automatic Diet was originated by Charles Stuart Platkin, a medical doctor. One of its major principles is eating less. During the first three days of this diet, dieters analyze their food intake to determine exactly what they are eating. They read food labels and then choose foods that are low in calories, lipids, and glucides. Another principle is increasing their athletic activity. Dieters are advised to avoid saturated fats, which are often found in meat, dairy products, and egg yolks. They should not cook food in oil but in a Teflon pan or steam them.

For your diet to be automatic, you must assume good alimentary habits. To do so, increase your protein intake and consume as little lipids (fats) as possible. Consume foods low in starch including vegetables. Foods that you should avoid include cold cuts, dairy products, sugary cereals, and foods rich in fat and sugar such as potato chips, pizza, cookies, cakes, ice cream, and other sweets. Make sure to have a good breakfast including cereal or bread. Enjoy balanced, nutritious snacks that are rich in protein. You are allowed an afternoon meal if you are hungry. Engage in sports such as walking, speed walking, and bicycling. Remember, it is more efficient to exercise during three ten minute sessions a day than once a day for thirty minutes.

A major advantage is its relative flexibility, which makes it easy to follow. The change in your dietary habits is progressive. This diet is said to be quite effective in the long term. The major disadvantage is the absence of any psychological aspect.

Here is a sample menu: For breakfast eat two rice cakes, a fruit salad, a no fat yoghurt, and a glass of tea or coffee. For lunch enjoy a vegetarian, cheese less pizza and a soy dessert. The mid-afternoon snack is an apple. Supper consists of asparagus spears, a tuna steak, spinach, and a pear.

A quick look at the Internet showed that both printed and electronic versions of an Automatic Diet book are available inexpensively.

Levi Reiss wrote or co-authored ten computer and Internet books and teaches classes in computers at an Ontario French-language community college. Zen Gardens Go Green With A Dry Landscape

Zen Gardens: What Really is a Zen Style Japanese Garden?

I was reading an article about Japanese gardens where the author got all bent out of shape about how western culture mistakenly refers to dry landscape style gardens in Japan as Zen Gardens. Their point was that the term Zen Garden has become loosely defined only because historically, some Zen Buddhist Monasteries built Karesansui style gardens and therefore, all dry landscape gardens are Zen style. So I did some research and found the following.

Unlike other traditional gardens, there is no water present in Karesansui (literally meaning dry landscape) gardens. Water is symbolized both by the arrangements of rock forms to create a dry waterfall and by patterns raked into sand to create a dry stream or to symbolize the ocean. The raked sand patterns mimic waves on the waters surface.

The rocks and gravel used are chosen for their aesthetic shapes, and mosses as well as small shrubs are sometimes used to provide contrasting elements to the austere rock and sand. The vertical forms using stone boulders suggest mountains on islands in the ocean.

The word karesansui is found in the 11th century garden manual *SAKUTEIKI and garden historians have designated Heian-period rock arrangements as Zenkishiki Karesansui.

Karesansui gardens were created similar to ink monochrome landscape painting and like paintings, the gardens are meant to be viewed from a single, seated perspective. In addition to the aesthetic similarities to Chinese painting, the rocks in karesansui are often associated with Chinese mountains.

I have also read that the Ryoanji garden, is comprised of 15 stones, laid out in five groups and that from any single vantage point, one cannot see all 15 stones at the same time. One must change viewing locations in order to see the hidden stone(s). But again, some other stone will be hidden upon changing your position of view. This design feature is something that a two dimensional landscape painting cannot achieve. I therefore question whether these gardens were designed to be viewed from a static position as suggested above.

Given the multiple Chinese associations of karesansui gardens, they are the preferred type of garden for Zen temples (Buddhism having arrived from China in the 7c) and the best examples are found in the front or rear gardens of Zen abbots’ residences.

While Muromachi karesansui tend to use plants sparingly, early Edo period gardens of this type often contrast an area of raked gravel with a section of moss and larger plants along the rear wall.

The aesthetic continuance with abstract art for the most part accounts for the resurgence of karesansui gardens both in Japan and other countries in the 20 century.

This last point is well taken. As an experienced landscape designer, I have consulted with hundreds of clients, many of whom have expressed interest in Zen type gardens. Whether or not they even know the symbolic meaning of a Karesansui type garden is beside the point.

Their motivation is usually that it fits into the category of being a Xeriscape type garden, that having low maintenance, low water use and no lawn. Further, they find the abstract simplicity appealing. The boulders are therefore seen more as sculptural elements rather than as mountains or islands in an ocean.

Clients such as the hypothetical scenario above has taught me to first find out how much the client knows about garden symbolism, sacredness and spirituality before I jump in and recommend the best spot for a meditation garden. Heck, they also may have no idea what I mean by creating a Zen Garden! Sort of like, Depends what your definition of the word is, is.

Marie Diamond Uses Feng Shui To Master The Secret

The more I devote my time into finding out what makes the individuals featured in the monster hit of the year The Secret tick, the more I see what an eclectic mix of personalities they all are. Marie Diamond is no exception.
She originates from Belgium and as she tells it she first started applying the law of attraction at the age of 7 through the pictures she would draw.
As the story goes her father and brother had what could be best described as a Falling Out with one another after her brother ran off and married without first informing the family. She loved her brother very much but he dropped out of her life entirely after his dispute with their father. She thought of him often and longed to see him again. Months went by without a word but she kept thinking of him just the same.

Out of nowhere it seems she got her first form of contact from him via a letter. Armed with his return address she wrote him back pouring out her little heart in every word written and requested to see him and his new bride. She then went to her room and drew a picture of her father and brother making amends by having them shake hands with the idea of forgiveness behind that simple gesture. She drew that picture with her intention in each and every separate stroke. She focused all her attention on the idea of her sibling and father coming together again for Christmas.

To her very own amazement she awoke on Christmas Eve to find her brother and his new bride in their living room. They (her father and older brother) where shaking hands just like they were in the picture she had created! She knew then and there the power of emotions and the thoughts they create. She has used this method of manifesting ever since and you can see for yourself what it has done for her in her own life!

After watching the interview she gave on ABCs View From The Bay where she related this story I understood why her contribution to The Secret showed her telling her client to draw what he wanted to manifest. Before seeing that interview, I had no idea the power that form of artistic impression and intent really had in the creation of making our dreams materialize. I have been so touched by her personal story that I am in the intention of drawing a picture depicting my family which consists of myself, my two daughters Nikki and Hunter and my dear friend Corey who opened up his home to us while I get back on my feet -enjoying the life we are currently creating for ourselves with happiness, health and wealth behind the intent!

She also emphasized the power of Vision Boards. She held up her own as an example of how to create one for the viewers to see. She has such great intention for wealth that she actually had a picture of A Billion-Dollar Bill! I didnt even know they existed until I saw one on her board. The idea behind that she stated was to allow unlimited amounts of wealth and prosperity to flow into her life. I like that idea myself. How about you?

Lastly she explained how important it is for you to look at, imagine having, and focusing on the objects you put on your own Vision Board. Her advise for the board put it in a place where you will see it though out the day like your office for instance if you have one. The idea is to focus on it daily but she cautions never have the board behind you as it will not be as powerful there and it may even result in the objects on the board not coming to you at all. In front of you is the best place for it but anywhere where your peripheral vision can see it will do as well.
